Why use a specialist living soil pot?
Conventional fabric pots are excellent when fast drainage and frequent irrigation are desirable, but living soil benefits from a more stable moisture range. Rapid edge drying can leave part of the soil volume too dry for consistent biological activity.
How MoistureLock works
MoistureLock™ is a waterproof liner sewn into the inside wall of the pot. It reduces side-wall evaporation and encourages irrigation water deeper into the container while the breathable lower strip maintains drainage and aeration.

Which size should you choose?
Living soil generally becomes easier to manage as soil volume increases. Larger containers provide greater moisture and nutrient reserves and change more gradually than small pots.
How to use Grassroots Living Soil Pots
- Position larger pots in their final location before filling.
- Use a suitable catchment tray or drainage arrangement where required.
- Fill with living soil or another suitable organic growing medium.
- Settle the soil gently without heavily compacting it.
- Water evenly across the surface and maintain reasonably consistent moisture.
Designed for no-till and soil reuse
These pots make the most sense when the growing medium is treated as a long-term system rather than disposable compost. After a cycle, established living soil can be maintained and re-amended rather than automatically emptied.
