Ecothrive Eco-Life has now been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available to order.
Ecothrive Eco-Life was a ready-to-use organic living soil designed to provide growers with a biologically active growing medium containing slow-release nutrition, organic matter and a well-aerated soil structure.
This page has been retained to help customers who previously used Ecothrive Eco-Life find information about the product and understand how it fitted into a living-soil growing system.
What was Ecothrive Eco-Life?
Eco-Life was a ready-made living soil developed by Ecothrive and Indoor Organics for growers who wanted the benefits of an established organic soil system without sourcing and mixing all of the individual ingredients themselves.
What was in Ecothrive Eco-Life?
- 40% peat: provided moisture retention and formed a substantial part of the growing-medium base.
- 20% coco coir: helped improve structure, moisture management and aeration.
- 20% vermicompost: supplied organic matter and supported biological activity.
- 20% pumice: created additional air space and improved drainage.
Eco-Life also contained organic amendments and slow-release nutrition designed to work alongside the biological activity within the growing medium.
Why growers used Eco-Life
Eco-Life offered a straightforward route into living-soil growing. Rather than starting with an inert substrate and supplying virtually all nutrition through bottled fertilisers, the soil itself acted as a nutrient reservoir and biological ecosystem.
Living soil is different from coco or hydroponics
Living soil depends on microorganisms, organic matter and mineral amendments within the growing medium. Maintaining the condition and moisture of the soil is therefore just as important as deciding what to add to irrigation water.
Keep living soil evenly moist
Biologically active soil should not repeatedly swing between being heavily saturated and completely dry. Maintaining reasonably consistent moisture helps support the microorganisms involved in breaking down organic material and cycling nutrients.
Maintaining an existing living soil system
Although Eco-Life itself has been discontinued, NPK Gardening Solutions continues to stock products that can help maintain, replenish and reuse existing living-soil systems.
- Ecothrive Soil Food Grow: for replenishing nutrition during vegetative growth.
- Ecothrive Soil Food Bloom: for flowering and fruiting plants.
- Ecothrive Soil Food Re-Gen: for restoring depleted soil between growing cycles.
- Ecothrive Charge: an insect-frass soil conditioner and biological amendment.
Reusing living soil
One advantage of a well-managed living-soil system is that the growing medium does not necessarily need to be thrown away after every crop. Larger containers and beds can be replenished and reused over multiple cycles.
Already growing in Eco-Life?
If you already have plants growing in Eco-Life, the discontinuation of the bagged product does not mean you need to replace the soil. Continue managing moisture and nutrition according to the requirements of the plants and growing system.
Looking for a replacement for Eco-Life?
Living soils can vary considerably in their base ingredients, nutrient strength, biological inputs and recommended management. If you previously used Eco-Life and need a new growing medium, contact NPK Gardening Solutions and tell us about your container size and growing method so we can help you work through the current options.
Important discontinued product notice
Ecothrive Eco-Life has been discontinued by the manufacturer and can no longer be supplied. This page has been kept live because existing growers may still need information about Eco-Life and customers may continue to search for the original product.
The NPK Gardening Solutions take
Eco-Life was popular because it gave growers a relatively straightforward route into living soil without requiring them to build a complete soil recipe from individual components. Now that it has been discontinued, we would rather help you choose a growing medium that genuinely suits your setup than label another product as a direct replacement without checking the details.
If you previously used Ecothrive Eco-Life and need help deciding what to use next, contact NPK Gardening Solutions and we can help you choose an appropriate option for your growing method.
