Grassroots Living Soil Trellis Beds are large reusable fabric growing beds with integrated trellis fittings, designed for growers who want to combine a stable living-soil system with a structural framework for plant support.
Like the standard Grassroots Living Soil Beds, they use MoistureLock™ lined sides to reduce rapid moisture loss around the edges of the growing medium while retaining a breathable lower section for drainage and aeration.
The difference is the frame fittings. This Trellis Bed version allows the PVC support structure to continue vertically above the bed, creating a convenient framework for adding plant-support netting or another suitable support system.
This version is supplied without PVC pipework. The fabric bed and required fittings are supplied, but you need to source and cut compatible pipe for the bed frame and trellis structure.

Why use a trellis bed?
Building the plant-support structure into the same frame gives you a fixed reference point around the growing area rather than relying on a completely separate support system. It can simplify the installation of support netting and keep the structure aligned with the bed.

What PVC pipe do I need?
Grassroots fittings are designed around 1-inch Schedule 40 PVC. When sourcing compatible pipe in the UK, check for a 33.4mm outside diameter. Schedule 40 wall thickness is approximately 3.3mm.

Plan the trellis before filling the bed
It is much easier to adjust PVC lengths, connector positions and trellis height while the bed is empty. Check overall height, access around the bed, irrigation layout and where support netting will sit before adding soil.

Designed for no-till soil reuse
Rather than emptying hundreds of litres of growing medium after every cycle, the soil can remain in position while nutrition and organic matter are replenished. This is where a permanent bed and trellis structure makes most sense.
